Hybrid Social Work Program Options

Are you entering college or looking to make a career change? Students can now pursue hybrid degree options in the rewarding field of social work while working with social work professionals at Regional West, thanks to a partnership with Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) in Scottsbluff and Chadron State College (CSC) in Chadron, Nebraska.

Regional West’s social work team assists patients and their families in numerous ways, including case management and advocacy, emotional support, discharge planning, and resource coordination. 

We are committed to ongoing education opportunities, and offer a sign-on bonus, expansive benefit package, and tuition reimbursement for employees pursuing the hybrid social work education program.

The hybrid program at WNCC requires synchronous participation, which may be completed remotely via Zoom. Hybrid courses at CSC may require on-campus attendance and in-person participation at certain times, in addition to Zoom meetings and online discussions.

Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC)

Students interested in taking the first step toward a career as a social worker can enroll in the Human Services program at Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC). 

The Human Services program at prepares students to enter a bachelor’s program in social work by providing a solid foundation in the helping professions and social work activities/services at WNCC. 

Regional West partners with WNCC so students can complete coursework online and, at the same time, gain valuable clinical experience in our Case Management & Social Work department. Work alongside seasoned social workers and earn your Associate of Arts degree in Human Services closer to home!

WNCC and Chadron State College (CSC), which offers a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited social work program, have developed an articulation agreement through the Panhandle Advantage to ensure a smooth transfer between the two institutions.

Chadron State College (CSC)

Chadron State College (CSC) offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with a comprehensive major in Social Work, which is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The CSC Social Work Program emphasizes the importance of human relationships in fostering individual growth and building healthy communities. The program helps build skills in advocacy, policy development, collaboration, collegiality, and networking. CSC offers foundational introductory courses during a student’s freshman and sophomore years, followed by advanced professional coursework and an agency-based field practicum in the junior and senior years.

The curriculum prepares students to work in diverse settings such as hospitals, mental health agencies, schools, government offices, and nonprofit organizations. CSC also provides strong transfer pathways and supports hybrid learners through Zoom meetings, online discussions, and weekly on-campus attendance during the final year prior to Field Practicum. This commitment to distance education reflects our dedication to developing professional social workers throughout the region.

Program Application Process and Requirements

Generally, students apply to the Professional Social Work Program during the fall semester of the junior year. Students who change majors or transfer to Chadron State College make application to the Professional Social Work Program when they have either completed or enrolled in all prerequisite Social Work courses.

Admission to the Chadron State College Professional Social Work Program is based on the following criteria:

     1. Junior standing.

     2. Cumulative grade point average of 2.50 and a 2.75 GPA in prerequisite social work courses.

     3. Completion of an application to the Professional Social Work Program by deadlines published during the fall semester. An application to the Professional Social Work Program includes: the application form, three letters of reference, written responses to questions identified on the application form, a personal statement, and a current resume.

     4. Completion of the following courses:

• BIOL 121/121L    Human Biology/Laboratory
• PSYC 131           Introduction to Psychological Sciences
• Math 232             Applied Statistics
• SW 231               Professional Social Work
• SW 251               Human Behavior/Social Environment I
• SW 252               Human Behavior/Social Environment II
• SW 331               Services to Children and Families

     5. Documentation of 40 hours of volunteer experience in a social service setting must be completed by the beginning of the fall semester of the senior year.

     6. Completed interview with social work faculty and the Social Work Program Advisory Committee.

     7. Signed statement of acknowledgment of student’s willingness to abide by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics.
