Regional West Offers Summer Conditioning Program To All Western Nebraska High School Student Athletes

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.- The RehabCenter’s certified athletic trainers are sponsoring a Speed, Power & Agility summer conditioning program for all 2007-2008 senior high school student athletes. This six-week program will focus on speed, power and agility and include personalized improvement plans for each participant. While many conditioning programs of this caliber cost between $500 and $700, the cost for this program is $25 per participant.

This conditioning program will be offered in Kimball, Mitchell and Scottsbluff, but students from other schools may participate at any of these locations. Enrollment is limited to 30 registrants per site and a minimum of 10 athletes is required to be held at each site.

“We’re excited for the kids because they have an awesome opportunity to receive specialized training, which will improve their speed and quickness,” said James Buck, one of the three full-time certified athletic trainers at the RehabCenter. “This program will benefit these athletes, regardless of which sport they’re involved in.”

Featuring an electronic timed 40-yard dash, vertical jump and agility testing, running form assessment and drills, this program will increase speed and improve agility. The high school program is similar to the junior high camp, which will be offered in the same three communities in June, but the high school program will also utilize plyometrics, a type of exercise that uses explosive movements to develop muscular power, and core training to help achieve their performance goals. The trainers will analyze the test results to determine areas of opportunity for improvement and work with each student personally.

Beginning July 2, participants will receive three 45-minute personalized training sessions per week for six weeks. They will also receive a T-shirt and be permitted to participate in the “How Do You Compare?” event at the end of the summer. This event will allow the athletic trainers to test the program participants’ and other western Nebraska high school athletes’ maximum performance to gauge their improvement. Results from this event will be published in the Star-Herald newspaper.

“This will give us the data we need to assess their improvement after a summer of specific and personalized workouts,” said Buck.
