Regional West and the Look Good Feel Better Program Invite Area Cancer Patients to Free Workshop
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., ― Area women currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation for cancer, or who have recently completed treatment, are invited to register for an upcoming Look Good Feel Better workshop, a free program sponsored by Regional West Cancer Services and The Look Good Feel Better Foundation.
The program helps women with cancer learn how to manage the appearance side effects of treatment, and includes complimentary two-hour group workshops with lessons on dealing with temporary hair loss, skin, complexion, and nail changes due to chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. The first classes will be offered Monday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at Regional West Medical Plaza South, meeting room 1, 3911 Avenue B, Scottsbluff, and Monday, Aug. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Regional West’s Dorwart Cancer Care Center, 830 Pine Street, Sidney, Nebraska. The class is free, and advance registration is required. For more dates or to register for a class, go to lookgoodfeelbetter.org.
Look Good Feel Better sessions are led by local volunteer licensed cosmetologists who teach makeup application techniques and offer skin and nail care guidance. They also demonstrate how to manage hair loss using wigs, turbans, scarves, and accessories when undergoing potential hair loss.
“Regional West is currently the only location in Nebraska offering Look Good Feel Better workshops,” said Regional West Cancer Nurse Navigator Barb Jensen, RN. “It’s a chance to take the class with other women who are also going through a difficult time in their lives, and know that you are not alone.”
“Look Good Feel Better is as much about improving and maintaining self-esteem and confidence as it is about appearance,” said Regional West Dorwart Cancer Care Center radiation oncology nurse Kendra Hausmann, LPN-C. “Women have the opportunity to spend time in a relaxed, nonmedical setting with others who are going through many of the same things. The workshop allows them to regain control of their lives.”
