Regional West Imaging Services Diagnostic Supervisor Showcased On Cover Of “Scanner” Magazine

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., –Randy Prouty, B.S., R.T.(R), Regional West Imaging Services diagnostic supervisor, made the cover of the July issue of “ASRT Scanner” magazine, published by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists . The article “Mastering the Art of Radiography” showcases Prouty’s tenure and love for radiography.

With more than 32 years of experience as a radiographer and 30 years as a clinical instructor at Regional West’s School of Radiologic Technology, Prouty firmly believes radiography is an “art form.”

“Even with all of the advancements in digital radiography, it still takes an educated, dedicated radiographer to make sure that the anatomy is positioned correctly and that the (radiation) dose to the patient is as low as possible,” he said.

Radiologic technologists use knowledge of patient care, physics, anatomy, physiology, pathology, and radiology to assess patients, create optimal X-rays and evaluate those images. So when Prouty hears a colleague say, “I’m just a radiographer,” he stops them. He says to them, “You are not just a radiographer. I want them to take pride in their field of expertise.”

Prouty returned to radiography after time spent in other disciplines because he missed the unique challenges radiography presented. He is the chief clinical instructor at Regional West School of Radiologic Technology and has served on the board of the Nebraska Society of Radiologic Technologists

“I think that part of my passion comes from my involvement in our radiologic technology school. I like the fact that I can take what I’ve learned (in radiography) over my years of experience and share that with a new class, year after year,” he said.
