Each class includes instruction in basic CPR and use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Participants receive two years of American Heart Association certification in CPR and AED.

According to The American Heart Association, CPR can double or even triple a victim’s chance of survival. The value of early CPR by bystanders is that it can "buy time" by maintaining some blood flow to the heart and brain during cardiac arrest.
