Regional West Unveils “Step and Repeat” Walkable Campus

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., – Regional West Health Services Wellness Team unveiled an indoor employee walking path and three outdoor walking trails on its campuses last week, during National Hospital Week.

Development of the medical center’s walkable campus is part of Nebraska’s statewide Walkable Communities initiative called “Step and Repeat.” Regional West partnered with the Panhandle Public Health District to map and calculate distances for the walking routes to encourage employees, visitors, and the community to walk regularly on Regional West campuses.

The walkable campus project includes routes at Regional West’s main campus, St. Mary campus, and The Village at Regional West. The routes are marked by Step and Repeat signs at the starting point of each trail. They vary from less than a mile to half a mile. Walking paths can be viewed at rwhs.org under the Visitors tab.

“Regional West Health Services has done an outstanding job promoting walking as a key strategy for both employee and patron health. The hospital’s indoor and outdoor campus provides the ideal setting for getting the perfect stroll on break, over the lunch hour, and for patients and visitors. Integrating walking into a wellness program is one of the single best things an employer can do to support the health of their employees and to lead the community towards better health. We commend Regional West’s efforts and have enjoyed our partnership,” said Jessica Davies, assistant health director with Panhandle Public Health District.

The journey to a happier and healthier “good life” begins with one step. Walking is the single most powerful thing you can do for yourself. It’s also a great way to spend time with the people you care about … to connect, share your life and create memories. Getting started is simple. Just Step and Repeat.

Regional West encourages all area residents to make walking part of their daily exercise program and to use the Step and Repeat routes at all three campuses.
