Regional West Medical Center Awarded Primary Stroke Center Recertification
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., ― Regional West has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check Mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers.
After conducting rigorous onsite observations and interviews by a team of Joint Commission reviewers, Regional West was awarded Primary Stroke Center recertification by the Joint Commission. The comprehensive Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts, providers, measurement experts, and patients.
“When it comes to stroke care, every second counts. A Primary Stroke Center designation means faster responses, advanced treatments, and improved outcomes for our patients,” said Justin Stubbs, MD, medical director of Regional West’s stroke program. “It’s a testament to our team’s unwavering dedication to deliver exceptional stroke care to the residents of western Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, and South Dakota.”
Regional West’s Stroke Program is designed to provide evidence based primary stroke care, including evaluation, treatment, and education to patients who present or are transferred with signs and symptoms of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). The delivery of exceptional, innovative stroke care is based upon an interdisciplinary team approach.
“Maintaining our Primary Stroke Center designation reflects the promise and commitment Regional West makes on a daily basis to provide evidence-based, exceptional care to our patients,” said Regional West Emergency Department Medical Director Troy Dean, MD, FACEP, FAAEM. “This designation highlights the approach and emphasis we place on patient care. That care begins with community education to help immediately recognize and seek medical attention for signs of a stroke, and continues through our Emergency Department, inpatient, and rehabilitation services, and coming full circle to outpatient services for primary and secondary stroke prevention.”
Physicians, advanced practice providers, and nurses provide acute stroke care services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Skilled therapies are provided by an interdisciplinary team Monday through Friday and weekends as needed. The care team delivers care based upon nationally recognized clinical practice standards as recommended by the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
