Regional West Offers Sport-Specific Performance Camp & Six-Week Conditioning Program To High School Student Athletes

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.- The RehabCenter at Regional West Medical Center is sponsoring a sport-specific performance camp and six-week Speed, Power & Agility summer conditioning program for all 2008-2009 senior high school student athletes (grades 9 through 12).

The sport-specific camps, which will be held at various times throughout the week of June 16, are designed to teach athletes a specific program of flexibility, plyometrics, strength and conditioning specific to their sport. Programs are based on sport-specific functional training, which are designed to train the specific movements that each spot demands. Camp curriculum emulates game situations while toning and preparing the body. Many sport-specific camps may cost anywhere from $100 to $150. The RehabCenter is offering this two-day camp for $25.

The six-week conditioning program, which will run June 23 through August 1, will focus on speed, power and agility and include personalized improvement plans for each participant. While many conditioning programs of this caliber cost between $500 and $700, the cost for this program is $25 per participant.

This conditioning program will be offered in Mitchell and Scottsbluff, but students from other schools are welcome to participate at either of these locations. Enrollment is limited to 30 registrants per site and a minimum of 10 athletes is required to be held at each location.

“We’re excited for the kids because they have an awesome opportunity to receive specialized training, which will improve their speed and quickness,” said James Buck, a certified athletic trainer and performance enhancement specialist at the RehabCenter. “The conditioning program will benefit these athletes, regardless of which sport they’re involved in.”

Both the sport-specific performance camps and the six-week conditioning program will utilize plyometrics, a type of exercise that uses explosive movements to develop muscular power, and core training to help achieve their performance goals. Buck will analyze the test results, closely monitor the athletes technique and speed of movement and determine areas of opportunity for improvement. Participants of either program will receive a free T-shirt.

For more information or to obtain a sign-up and consent form, call the RehabCenter at (308) 630-1355, or e-mail sportsmed@rwmc.net. The registration deadline for both programs is June 2.
