Regional West Health Services Interpreter Earns “Caring Kind” Award

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., – Martin Vargas, language access coordinator at Regional West Health Services, was among 73 health care professionals statewide recognized recently with the prestigious Caring Kind award during the Nebraska Hospital Association’s (NHA) 2014 Annual Convention in Lincoln.

For 35 years, the Caring Kind award has been given to Nebraska's most caring hospital workers. The award honors outstanding health care employees who have demonstrated compassion for patients, cooperation with co-workers, and dedication to excellence in their job responsibilities. Hospitals across the state each choose one Caring Kind recipient from their respective institutions to be recognized during the NHA Annual Convention.

Sarah Shannon, BSN, RN, Director of Nursing Support at Regional West Medical Center, is Vargas’ supervisor. When describing his contributions, she said, “Martin truly exemplifies this award in his everyday interactions with our patients and colleagues. His kindness and compassion is evident in his role as interpreter. I can't think of another person who would be more deserving of this award.”

According to his nomination, Vargas’ dedication and professionalism make him the ideal Caring Kind winner. The nomination stated, “He is very kind to both staff and the patients and goes above and beyond to make sure they understand and have all their questions answered. He is punctual so that the patients and staff never have to wait for treatment to begin. He is always dressed professionally and is ready for his duties as, I believe, one of the best interpreters that Regional West Medical Center and Regional West Physicians Clinic has ever had the pleasure of working with. He provides such a wonderful level of service for our customers in the valley and I am truly grateful for his service to our community.”
