Regional West ‘Senior Citizen Vaccination Day’ Set for Nov. 11

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., – Regional West will hold a “Senior Citizen Vaccination Day” from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, at the Community Health office at St. Mary Plaza. This is a walk-in clinic for vaccinations only. No appointment is necessary.

The clinic will offer high dose flu vaccinations and pneumonia vaccinations for those 65 and older, as well as standard flu shots for those younger than 65. In addition, shingles vaccinations will be available for those 50 and older.

Flu vaccination is recommended for anyone six months of age and older. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports, “Among adults, complications, hospitalizations, and deaths due to influenza are generally most common among those 65 years old and over. However, adults 50 years old and over are a priority group for vaccination because this group may be more likely to have chronic medical conditions that put them at higher risk of severe influenza illness.”

“The Senior Citizen Vaccination clinic has been specially designated for this group,” said Paulette Schnell, health director of Regional West Community Health and Scotts Bluff County. “While those over age 50 are especially encouraged to attend, anyone wishing to receive a flu immunization is welcome.”

Co-pays may apply and will be due at the time of service for Medicare participants. Medicare Part B and Part D (prescription drug plan) and insurance companies will be billed for those who bring their cards. Medicaid patrons are welcome and options are available for those without insurance.

If you are unable to attend this clinic, these vaccinations are also available by appointment at Regional West Family Medicine and at the Community Health office. For more information, please call Community Health, 308-630-1580.
