Local Nursing Student Receives Scholarship to Continue Health Care Education

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., –The board of directors of Regional West Foundation is pleased to announce that Stephen Schlickbernd of Scottsbluff has been awarded the $28,000 Glen and Leo Kellett Nursing Scholarship. The scholarship is designated for a student enrolled in the Doctorate Nursing Program at the University of Nebraska College of Nursing, Scottsbluff Division. It covers the cost of tuition, books, and student fees for four years.

Schlickbernd will graduate from UNMC in May with a Bachelor in Science of Nursing (BSN) degree. The Kellett scholarship will allow him to achieve his goal of continuing his nursing education.

“I grew up in Scottsbluff and plan to stay in the area. I really like helping people and health care is a career field where I can do just that,” said Schlickbernd. “My wife and young son deserve a good life and this will definitely help us with the expense of graduate school.”

“The DNP, or Doctor of Nursing Practice, is the highest professional degree available to nurses who provide care in a clinical or hospital setting. It prepares students to improve the delivery of patient care by combining clinical expertise with the best health care research evidence,” said Sue Wilhelm, PhD, RN, Assistant Dean, UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division.

“The Foundation is pleased to reward Stephen’s dedication, commitment, and compassion to continue his health care education.” said John Massey, Chair Regional West Foundation Board of Directors. “We are very appreciative to the Kellett family for allowing the foundation to support health care education in the region through their family scholarship.”

The mission of Regional West Foundation is to serve the regional community in cooperation with Regional West Medical Center by seeking and administering donations in support of quality health care services and education.
