After you make the decision to have surgery, we offer three popular options: laparoscopic banding, gastric bypass, and gastric sleeve surgery.
A Lap Band® is a silicone band that is placed on the upper portion of the stomach. It presses on the nerves to decrease appetite and restricts the amount of food eaten at one time.
Gastric bypass surgery creates a small pouch separate from the larger stomach. This pouch creates a smaller surface area for food to absorb and results in the patient feeling full after consuming much smaller meals. The intestine is attached to the small pouch, effectively bypassing the larger stomach cavity.
Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Gastric sleeve surgery makes the stomach smaller and will help you lose weight. With a smaller stomach, you will eat less and feel full much quicker. This surgery can be done two ways - with an open incision or laproscopically. Your surgeon will determine which method is used. During the surgery, more than half of the stomach is removed, leaving a thin, vertical sleeve about the size of a banana. Because part of your stomach has been removed, this surgery is not reversible.
